TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of US state legislative leaders arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a six-day visit.
The delegation includes lawmakers from Mid-Atlantic states including Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) praised close Taiwan-US cooperation in trade, education, and talent cultivation during a banquet Tuesday. He thanked Mid-Atlantic state legislatures for supporting Taiwan and said he hoped to expand cooperation through US state offices in Taiwan.
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral economic and trade cooperation, high-tech talent development, AI data center construction, countering disinformation, and Taiwan’s international participation.
Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Don Scott, who led the delegation, said the visit helped members gain a better understanding of Taiwan’s democratic development, technological strengths, and resilience. He said the group would continue promoting exchanges with Taiwan to strengthen bilateral ties.
The foreign ministry said it will continue strengthening partnerships with US states and expanding exchanges and cooperation in trade, technology, and education.
