TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Gigabyte subsidiary Giga Computing said Friday its first servers powered by AMD’s next-generation EPYC 9006 processors will begin mass shipments in November.
The new sixth-generation AMD EPYC platform features SP7 and SP8 variants. The SP7 platform supports up to 256 cores per socket, 16-channel DDR5 MRDIMM memory with transfer speeds of up to 12,800 MT/s, and PCIe 6.0 for AI training, high-performance computing, and hyperscale cloud deployments, per UDN. The SP8 platform is designed for virtualization, databases, and edge computing with improved power efficiency.
Gigabyte’s initial lineup includes the R165-DG2-CS1, a 1U server with a closed-loop liquid cooling system, and the B685-D80-LS1, a 6U direct-liquid-cooled blade server with 10 compute nodes for high-density high-performance computing workloads. A second wave of SP7 servers is scheduled for release later this year, followed by SP8 systems in March 2027.
Giga Computing General Manager Hou Chih-jen (侯智仁) said the new platform was redesigned from the motherboard layout to its thermal architecture to maximize computing density and performance, per UDN. He said the systems allow customers to fully utilize processor capabilities from the start of deployment.
AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute and Enterprise AI Dan McNamara said the sixth-generation EPYC server CPUs will provide improved performance and scalability for modern data centers. He said the processors are designed to support demand for cloud computing and AI workloads.
