TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Belize Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation Osmond Martinez is visiting Taiwan at the head of a four-member delegation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday.
The delegation’s July 27–31 visit includes Deputy Minister Carlos Pol and Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute representative Leticia Westby. Martinez is close to Prime Minister John Briceno, who chairs the ministry.
The delegation will visit the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Affairs, Finance, Agriculture, and Environment, as well as the National Development Council. The Taipei Exchange, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, the recently launched Latin American and Caribbean Trade Office, Taiwan Sugar Corp.’s Xiaogang factory, an electric bus plant, and the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung are also on the itinerary.
The visits will enhance the delegation’s understanding of Taiwan’s pluralistic society and technological development while creating more opportunities for cooperation, MOFA said. Taiwan and Belize established diplomatic relations 37 years ago, and the ministry said this is Martinez’s first visit to Taiwan.
Areas targeted for closer bilateral cooperation include women’s empowerment, public health, talent training, social welfare, and basic infrastructure, the ministry said.
