TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit Tainan on Monday at 10:14 a.m., according to the Central Weather Administration.
The quake’s epicenter was 36.7 kilometers east-northeast of Tainan City Hall, with a focal depth of 9.6 km.
The strongest shaking, measuring Level 4 on Taiwan’s intensity scale, was recorded in Tainan and Kaohsiung.
Level 3 shaking was reported in Chiayi County and Yunlin County.
Level 2 shaking was felt in Chiayi and Changhua County.
Level 1 shaking was felt in Pingtung County, Taitung County, Nantou County, Hualien County, Miaoli County, Penghu County, and Taichung.
Taiwan uses a scale of 0 to 7 to measure an earthquake’s intensity at a specific location.
