TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is looking into allegations that the Moroccan embassy in Japan is no longer issuing visas to Taiwanese travelers, reports said Friday.
Taiwan’s Lion Travel said the embassy announced Thursday it would stop processing visa applications, per Liberty Times. As a result, the travel agency will no longer accept applications for trips to Morocco, and will refund deposits from clients who already booked.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday morning it had contacted Morocco about the case, but had received no explanation yet, Liberty Times reported. Taiwan does not operate a representative office in the North African country.
People considering a trip to Morocco for tourism or business in the near future should evaluate their plans and pay close attention to official notifications, the ministry said.
Visitors from Taiwan have to obtain a visa confirmation letter from the Moroccan embassy before receiving a visa on arrival giving them the right to stay for 14 days. The whole process lasts 50 working days if a travel agency is involved, 54 days without, Liberty Times reported.
