TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued a sea warning for Tropical Storm Noul, forecasting rain in the south through Saturday as the storm passes south of Taiwan.
The CWA said the storm was located about 460 km southeast of Eluanbi at 5 a.m. Friday and was moving west-northwest at 26 kph. The agency forecast Noul would move to within 270 km west-southwest of Eluanbi over the next 24 hours.
The sea warning covers the Bashi Channel, Dongsha Island, and the southern Taiwan Strait.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said rainfall will become more widespread later Friday from the Hengchun Peninsula to the northeastern coast. Noul’s outer rainbands could bring rain on Saturday from Hualien southward, particularly in Pingtung, while central Taiwan could see isolated showers.
Wu said scattered showers will continue in the east, southeast, and south on Sunday as Noul moves away. The atmosphere could remain unstable through Tuesday before drier, more stable weather returns later next week.
