TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Commerce Development Research Institute and Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to help Taiwan’s drone industry expand into Central and Eastern Europe.
The agreement establishes an industrial cooperation platform, linking MDRI, Taiwanese businesses in the Czech Republic, and industrial organizations, per CNA.
MDRI Chair Hsu Tien-tsai (許添財) said the partnership will strengthen ties between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, per UDN. He said MDRI will connect Taiwanese companies with local partners to promote industrial internationalization.
The cooperation will also involve research institutions, including Czech technical universities, to promote technology development and talent exchanges. Hsu said Taiwan’s resilience has allowed it to contribute to the global economy, adding that the country needs more international markets and partners.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Taiwan exported about NT$3.73 billion (US$115.85 million) of drones in Q1, with about NT$3.22 billion shipped to the Czech Republic, making it the largest export destination.
Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic Chair Huang Hung-chang (黃鴻章) said the Czech Republic has 16 domestic drone companies, many of which rely on Taiwanese suppliers for components. He said both sides could expand cooperation in flight control systems, with drone exports expected to rise.
