TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Many stores at Taipei Main Station will close at 3 p.m. Friday to prepare for Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store Co. to take over the shopping mall the following day.
In April, Taiwan Railway Corp. announced that Shin Kong Mitsukoshi had been selected as the preferred bidder to operate the complex. Breeze Development Co., the incumbent operator, ranked second in the bidding.
Breeze’s contract runs until July 24, with Shin Kong Mitsukoshi taking over operations on July 25, Liberty Times reported. Taiwan Railway reminded travelers and shoppers that many shops would close after 3 p.m. Friday, though some will remain open.
On the first floor, four FamilyMart convenience stores, Taiwan Railway shops, travel agencies, and a massage parlor will operate during regular hours, the report said. From Saturday morning, all restaurants, souvenir shops, and other businesses on the first, second, and underground floors will resume normal opening hours.
The management contract runs for 15 years, with an option for an eight-year extension. Taiwan Railway said it required a minimum investment of NT$765 million (US$23.58 million).
