TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Low-pressure area 92W east of the Philippines is likely to become Tropical Storm Noul on Thursday and move northwest over the Bashi Channel by the start of the weekend.
The storm could pass close to southern Taiwan on Friday and Saturday, Liberty Times reported. If its course shifts farther north than currently forecast, the storm could pass within 100 kilometers of Hengchun in Pingtung.
Hualien, Taitung, the Hengchun Peninsula, and mountainous areas in southern Taiwan are likely to feel the impact of heavy rain. After moving over the Bashi Channel, the storm is expected to head toward China’s Guangdong Province.
Depending on the storm’s size, the Central Weather Administration could issue sea warnings as early as Thursday, per CNA. However, forecasters said it was still too early to make accurate predictions about its route.
