TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Miaoli County Government announced on Sunday that it held a regional robotics competition for students of all ages from Hsinchu and Miaoli.
The event was co-hosted by the ESun Robotics Association at Yu Da University of Science and Technology. The competition had 82 teams of 300 teachers and students from Hsinchu and Miaoli compete across eight categories, including sumo wrestling, maze challenges, 3-on-3 soccer, and arm tasks.
Miaoli Magistrate Chung Tung-chin (鍾東錦) presided over the opening ceremony and asked organizers to add cash incentives in future competitions. Chung also said that there should be closer cross-sector cooperation to accelerate AI robotics and drone development.
Chung has toured robotics manufacturers in Japan and Singapore and encouraged students to develop their passion into future careers. He also highlighted the importance of drones for defense and civilian applications.
He said that with drones now being deployed in areas such as agriculture and firefighting, the county would support proposed robotics and drone initiatives to incentivize anchored industry developments. He pointed to domestic technological progress, such as low-earth-orbit satellite launches by TiSpace.
The competition is a platform for students of different ages to exchange ideas and demonstrate their learning outcomes. Students are evaluated based on their programming, logical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
