TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Sunday presented a posthumous presidential commendation to Air Force Major Hsin Po-yi (辛柏毅), a pilot killed when his F-16V fighter jet crashed off the east coast during a training mission in January.
The commendation recognized Hsin's loyalty, courage, and dedication to defending the nation. His father, Hsin Chin-yu (辛進裕), accepted the honor on his behalf, per a press release.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lai said losing Hsin deeply saddened him. "Your mission is complete. Rest assured, we will continue to protect the country and family you loved so dearly. Thank you, mission accomplished," said Lai.
Lai said Hsin carried out every assignment with professionalism and distinction, describing him as an outstanding pilot and a steadfast guardian of Taiwan's airspace and peace across the Taiwan Strait. He extended condolences to the pilot's family, noting that Hsin's wife also serves in the armed forces. Lai instructed the ministry to provide the family with full support.

Hsin died while flying an F-16V during a nighttime training exercise. According to the military, rapidly deteriorating weather and sea conditions reduced visibility, contributing to the fatal accident. The aircraft's flight data recorder was recovered and sent to the US for analysis.
Following his death, Hsin was posthumously promoted to the rank of major and awarded the Order of Loyalty and Valour in recognition of his dedication, integrity, and sacrifice in the line of duty.
