TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s Global Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Academy signed a letter of intent with the Japan Drone Consortium, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.
The document was signed during the July 15-17 International Drone Expo in Tokyo Friday, the ministry said in a statement. Taiwan was represented by Chiang Zhen-wei (江振瑋), the chief executive director of the ministry’s drone diplomacy task force.
Chiang also delivered an address about national drone strategies and supply chain cooperation. He presented a detailed analysis of Taiwan’s advantages and of its drone diplomacy, the ministry said.
The three main advantages were excellent manufacturing capabilities, experience in ICT technology, and a non-red supply chain, according to Chiang. Taiwan’s drone sector already counted more than 300 suppliers, with the government assisting them to expand their reach overseas.
The ministry’s academy and Japan will cooperate on establishing non-red supply chains and certification, training and capacity building, and the launch of events and competitions, Chiang said. He added the training will shape international professionals, link up businesses in Taiwan and Japan, and raise the global impact of Taiwan’s drone sector.
The ministry concluded that it would continue to cooperate with democratic partners to boost the security, resilience, and prosperity of the global drone supply chain.
