TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Air raid drills in northern and central Taiwan next month will include the shutting down of mobile internet for half an hour, reports said Saturday.
The simulation between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. will leave phone users with only the ability to make and receive voice calls and text messages, the Liberty Times reported. The plan for the disruption of telecom services was drawn up by the National Communications Commission.
The 2026 Urban Resilience Exercises will take place on Aug. 10 in Taichung, Changhua, Miaoli, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi City, and Chiayi County. Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, and Yilan will follow on Aug. 13.
Police advised the public to download relevant information, such as the location of air raid shelters near their home or place of work, ahead of time, the Liberty Times reported. They should also familiarize themselves with the basic principles of seeking shelter and follow the instructions of police or civil defense staff.
