NEW TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — A speech therapist in New Taipei has been indicted on allegations that he sexually abused 29 children with developmental delays, prosecutors said Friday.
CNA reported that the accused, surnamed Chen (陳), worked at a rehabilitation clinic in Banqiao District and assaulted the children 107 times over a two-month period. The victims were all younger than 12 and had speech, cognitive or developmental impairments.
New Taipei District Prosecutors Office is seeking a prison sentence of more than 20 years. Investigators said the case came to light after complaints prompted a review of clinic surveillance footage.
The authorities previously said at least eight children were believed to have been harmed before the case expanded further during the investigation.
