TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) on Friday promised to support parents after staff at Charisse International Preschool allegedly mistreated at least 12 children.
Chiang said the city government would complete its investigation by the end of July. He promised swift and serious penalties if officials confirm the allegations, CNA reported.
Rti reported that Taipei City Councilor Hsu Li-hsin (徐立信) and more than 10 parents raised the allegations on Wednesday. They accused preschool staff of dragging children into classrooms and ordering them to crawl like dogs in a hallway.
Parents asked the city government to investigate the preschool’s director and owner, as well as all other preschools operated by the same company. They called on officials to identify everyone involved and ensure preschool children are kept safe.
Preschool owner Chen Li-yuan (陳立原) apologized and said he would take responsibility. Chen said the preschool was cooperating with the city’s education department and prosecutors and would face legal consequences.
Chiang said he was angry and deeply troubled by the allegations, both as mayor and as a parent. He said the city government would conduct a full review and help affected families seek compensation.
