TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Alishan Visitor Center in Chiayi County reopened Friday after renovations, adding services aimed at helping visitors better understand the area’s forests.
The Chiayi Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency said the renovated center now focuses on three main functions: tourism services, travel information, and wood products, per CNA. The facility has been redesigned as the first stop for visitors entering the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area.
The center’s new Wood 1+1 exhibition highlights the value and beauty of timber, showing how it can be transformed from a natural resource into everyday products, per UDN. The exhibition explores wood’s characteristics, including grain patterns, knots and natural shapes, as well as processing techniques and design applications.
The Chiayi Branch said the center now integrates services with exhibitions. Visitors can learn about Alishan’s natural environment and forest resources before entering the recreation area.
Officials said the facility aims to create a closer connection between visitors and the forest by offering spaces for rest, information services, exhibitions and product displays.
