TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s military police on Thursday conducted a drill on the Taipei MRT system that simulated a hostile infiltration attempt targeting key government facilities.
The 202nd Military Police Command’s 211th and 332nd battalions carried out a mobilization drill, practicing responses to a simulated intrusion in Taipei’s Boai Special Zone, per Liberty Times. The units are responsible for security at the Presidential Office and the official residences of the president and vice president.
Troops moved through the Taipei MRT network to simulate how to avoid disruptions to surface transportation while responding to a security threat. Personnel carried T112 rifles, T74 machine guns, M240 machine guns, and Kestrel anti-armor rockets.
The drill also simulated hostile agents targeting key infrastructure in Taipei’s Nangang District, with military police boarding trains at Longshan Temple Station, traveling to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station, and then moving to the exercise site, Liberty Times reported. After leaving the station, personnel carried out tactical response procedures against simulated infiltrators.
The exercise also included preparations for PLA cognitive warfare scenarios, with military police placing posters inside MRT carriages to simulate wartime psychological operations. The 211th Battalion also worked with the Army’s Third Logistics Command to conduct food and ammunition resupply exercises around MRT stations and underground platforms.
The 202nd Military Police Command said the MRT network enabled troops to rapidly reach tactical positions and support frontline operations, per the Military News Agency. Command said the drill strengthened the ability of military police units to operate in urban environments.
