TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taipei Metro has replaced two exit barriers at Taipei Railway Station with red and green light strips on the floor, reports said Thursday.
The company first introduced the new system at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station on the Blue Line or Bannan Line, the Liberty Times reported. In addition, a red flashing light flags people entering the station without valid payment.
At Taipei Railway Station, two red gates were replaced by the new system on the B3 level in the direction of the Taiwan Rail and the Taiwan High-Speed Rail stations. The presence of red and green light strips on the floor at the gate allows passengers to move along faster, helping clear congestion, officials said.
If an individual enters the station without paying, a red light would flash. If instead of returning to purchase a valid ticket, the individual keeps moving forward, a warning sounds, in addition to the flashing red light, per the Liberty Times.
The system received a positive reception from the public after it was installed at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station, Taipei Metro officials said. The company will continue to gauge reactions from passengers to refine the system, according to officials.
