TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TSMC on Thursday announced plans to invest about another NT$3.16 trillion (US$100 billion) in the US amid rising demand for advanced chips, Nikkei Asia reported.
The expansion will include at least four factories and advanced chip-packaging facilities in Arizona. The new factories will produce chips using 2-nanometer or more advanced technology.
TSMC’s planned investment in Arizona now totals around NT$8.37 trillion, but the company did not provide a completion date. It said construction would proceed according to customer demand while boosting US chip production and creating jobs.
TSMC also raised its 2026 spending budget by more than 10%. The company now plans to spend up to around NT$2.02 trillion, compared with its previous limit of around NT$1.77 trillion.
TSMC expects its full-year revenue to increase by about 40%, up from its earlier forecast of 30%. TSMC Chair C.C. Wei (魏哲家) said major cloud service providers continued to show strong demand for artificial intelligence computing.
TSMC posted a net profit of around NT$706.26 billion for the April–June quarter, an increase of 77.4% from a year earlier. Quarterly revenue climbed 36% to a record of NT$1.27 trillion.
The company’s gross profit margin reached a record 67.7%, up from 66.2% in the previous quarter. TSMC produces advanced chips for global technology companies including Nvidia, Apple, Google, and Amazon.
Some investors remain concerned about whether technology companies can maintain their current levels of AI investment. However, chip equipment suppliers ASML and Applied Materials expect strong demand to support continued factory construction in the coming years.
