TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Economics Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) presided over the opening of Taiwan Expo in Tokyo on Wednesday.
The second edition of the event in Japan from July 15-17 features 154 exhibitors, 15% more than the previous event, the Liberty Times reported.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council said the event could lead to business opportunities valued at NT$4.5 billion (US$140 million). Participating businesses are involved in drones, AI, and robots, officials said.
Taiwan has organized 41 similar exhibitions over the past nine years, with 16 cities in 10 countries selected as hosts. The latest show in Tokyo is expecting at least 20,000 visitors.
Kung mentioned the launch of a Taiwan Trade and Investment Center in Fukuoka last year as a sign of Taiwan’s interest in closer economic relations with Japan. The economics minister listed semiconductors, AI, ICT products, precision machinery, and smart healthcare as areas where the two countries are complementary.
Amid shifting supply chains, Taiwan is expanding internationally, Kung said, citing Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s plant in Kumamoto as an example.
Taiwan Expo features a wide range of companies from small innovators to large corporations including Foxconn Technology, TECO Electric and Machinery, and Delta Electronics, the Liberty Times reported.
