TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Michelin Guide Taiwan on Tuesday announced its 2026 Bib Gourmand selections, recognizing 146 restaurants nationwide, including 13 new additions.
The new selections include four restaurants in Taipei, one in Taichung, three in Tainan, three in New Taipei, and two in Hsinchu County, per UDN. The Bib Gourmand designation recognizes restaurants that offer quality food at moderate prices.
The selected restaurants include 37 in Taipei, 23 in Taichung, 30 in Tainan, 21 in Kaohsiung, 18 in New Taipei, 10 in Hsinchu County, and seven in Hsinchu. More than 80% of the newly added restaurants serve Taiwanese cuisine or traditional Hakka snacks.
Michelin Guide International Director Gwendal Poullennec said this year's Bib Gourmand selections highlight "easy-going, authentic, and simple fare," as well as popular street foods and local culinary traditions, UDN reported. He added, "Taiwan stands out not only for its outstanding culinary skills, but also for its spirit of cultural exchange and openness, making it one of Asia's most exciting culinary destinations."
The added Taipei selections include the chicken-broth restaurant Ching Jiao, the braised-pork restaurant Open Smile, the Japanese curry restaurant Toriaezu Curry, and the Taiwanese stir-fry restaurant Yu Yu 1969. Taichung's new addition is Don Moo, which specializes in home-style duck dishes.
The three new Tainan selections are BAA Wanli Goat, Chan Chi, and Zhu-Ji Dong Tsai Ya, UDN reported. Zhu-Ji Dong Tsai Ya and BAA Wanli Goat are among Tainan's longest-established eateries, having opened in 1942 and 1962, respectively.
New Taipei's additions include Abba Hakka, Bei Ya Duck Thick Soup, and Bitan Chiao Tou Goose. Hsinchu County's new selections are Monsoon and Yi Ge Rice Vermicelli.
Michelin Taiwan said the full list of restaurants in the Michelin Guide Taiwan 2026 will be announced at a ceremony next Tuesday.
