TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s Intellectual Property Office said on Monday it has added an AI-powered automatic recommendation for goods and services names to its trademark query system to help applicants select compliant terms more quickly.
The office said the names that applicants choose for their products or services are an important basis for review, per CNA. The office added that filings are often delayed when terms are either not concise or misclassified, requiring amendments that protract reviews.
The new function allows users to enter a product or service and receive up to 20 suggested compliant terms drawn from previous applications, helping them identify suitable descriptions to include in their applications.
By clarifying applicability in real time, filing efficiency is improved with fewer improper designations and lower administrative costs for both applicants and reviewers.
TIPO said it will continue to incorporate AI tech and user feedback to optimize the search platform for integration with the online filing system. TIPO noted that the applicants must still choose names that mirror the actual application of their goods or services.
