TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – As Typhoon Bavi was moving away from Taiwan, several areas in mostly mountainous parts of Taiwan as well as the Matsu islands were canceling classes and offices Sunday.
According to the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration, the list of areas where schools and offices would remain closed included the Kaohsiung districts of Maolin, Namasia, Taoyuan, Liugui, and Jiaxian. Further north, Fuxing District in Taoyuan and the townships of Jianshi and Wufeng in Hsinchu County also met the cancellation criteria.
Flooding in Miaoli led to closures in Nanzhuang, Shitan, and Taian, while Heping District in Taichung was also listed. Lienchiang County, better known as Matsu, will have offices and schools closed Sunday.
On the east coast in Hualien, the township of Fenglin and two villages in the township of Wanrong will see cancellations Sunday. The area has been under threat from a barrier lake which might overflow following heavy rainfall.

According to the Central Weather Administration, Typhoon Bavi was situated 270 kilometers north of Taipei at 7 p.m. Saturday. The storm was moving northwest at a speed of 26 km to 23 km per hour. Sea and land warnings were expected to be lifted Sunday morning.
