TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Friday that Taiwan and Ukraine should strengthen cooperation and exchanges as both face challenges on the front lines of democracy.
Lin met a four-member cross-party delegation of Ukrainian lawmakers led by First Deputy Head of the Infrastructure and Transport Committee Yulia Sirko, according to the foreign ministry. The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern.
Lin said Taiwan has supported Ukraine since the Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022, using its industrial strengths to help establish a smart healthcare system for the Unbroken Ecosystem medical park in Lviv and a 5G smart city demonstration zone in Bucha, per CNA.
Lin said China’s support for Russia has made Beijing the “decisive enabler” of Moscow's aggression and that its authoritarian expansion also threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He said Taiwan and Ukraine should deepen cooperation as both work to defend democratic values.
Sirko thanked Taiwan for its humanitarian assistance and said the two sides could expand cooperation in areas including drone components and non-Chinese supply chains. She said Taiwan’s technology and Ukraine’s experience can complement each other and create mutual benefits.
Sirko said the delegation's visit reflected bipartisan support for Taiwan in Ukraine's parliament and pledged to continue advancing bilateral ties. During their visit, the lawmakers attended the China In The World Summit while meeting with organizations to discuss drone cooperation and regional security.
