TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital is adopting AI agents to reduce repetitive tasks and strengthen patient care.
KMUH held its third healthcare and AI summit on Friday, focusing on AI agents in medical settings and showcasing smart healthcare technologies, per Yam News.
The summit featured experts from academia and industry discussing AI trends, cybersecurity, and adoption challenges, per CNA. One highlight was the CoDoctor Endovia Smart Endoscopy System, developed jointly by KMUH and Foxconn, which uses large language models to assist with lesion measurements and create medical reports.
KMUH Superintendent Wang Chao-yuan (王照元) said AI is not intended to replace healthcare professionals but to reduce repetitive tasks and allow medical staff to spend more time caring for patients. The hospital’s KMU Genie generative AI platform is used to organize medical records and provide 24-hour consultations by integrating pharmacy and laboratory expertise, per CNA.
Kaohsiung Medical University President Yu Ming-lung (余明隆) said AI will reshape medical education, research, and clinical practice. He said the university is also updating its curriculum to train healthcare professionals with both AI knowledge and clinical expertise.
KMUH said it will develop large language models while advancing Ambient AI and a Hospital AI Operations Center. The hospital said stronger information security and data governance will help it use AI to improve healthcare efficiency.
