TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s exports reached NT$2.41 trillion (US$74.83 billion) in June, the third-highest total for a month, the Ministry of Finance said Thursday.
The ministry said exports rose 40.3% year-on-year supported by strong shipments tied to AI, high-performance computing, and cloud services, per Anue. Imports climbed 51.8% to a record NT$2.01 trillion, lifting both first-half trade and the trade surplus to new highs.
Information, communications, and audiovisual product exports surged 72.3% year-on-year to NT$1.09 trillion, led by computers, peripherals, and storage devices. Electronic component exports increased 32.8% to NT$817.97 billion as chipmakers, including TSMC, continued expanding advanced production capacity.
First-half exports reached a record NT$13.42 trillion, up 47.1% from a year earlier, while imports totaled NT$10.28 trillion, an increase of 40.3%, per CNA. The trade surplus widened to a record NT$3.14 trillion, up NT$1.34 trillion from the same period last year.
Exports to the US rose 34.8% year-on-year to NT$750.32 billion in June, accounting for the largest share of Taiwan’s export growth. Shipments to Europe and ASEAN also remained strong, increasing 48.4% and 47.1%, respectively.
The ministry said exports are expected to remain resilient in the second half despite geopolitical tensions and uncertainty over US tariff policies. It said AI infrastructure investment, demand for computing power, and expanding chip capacity will support Taiwan’s trade performance.
