TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Investigators raided 24 locations Wednesday in a probe targeting allegations of corruption against the New Taipei Fire Department.
The raids included the office and home of former department chief Huang Te-ching (黃德清), but he himself was not summoned for questioning, the Liberty Times reported. Prosecutors are preparing to interrogate seven other defendants, including fire department officials and a businessperson.
Suspicions focused on illegal dealings surrounding the procurement of fire department vehicles over the past 10 years. Department officials allegedly accepted kickbacks for favoring certain contract bidders, the report said.
New Taipei Fire Department did not provide any details about the case, but said it was cooperating with the investigation. While Huang no longer served as department chief, he was still employed by the city government as an adviser and maintained an office inside the building, according to the Liberty Times.
