TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry has scheduled a technical seminar for Thursday to show the metalworking sector how to apply multimodal sensing with AI during inspections, per the Economic Daily News.
Multimodal sensing integrates real-time use of AI image recognition, acoustic, vibration, and temperature data for faster detection. Although production lines are automated, increasingly complex and rigid specifications cannot be covered by human inspection alone.
The institute said the forum will gather manufacturers, precision machinery suppliers, supply-chain partners, and IT service providers to discuss deployment and risk management. The institute added that the aim is to shorten research cycles and help manufacturers shift from pilot projects to scaled adoption.
Sessions will focus on signal integration to identify defects, showing the benefits of intelligent solutions in complex machining environments. There will be demonstrations on building AI agents to execute these processes, as well as applications in equipment diagnosis and workplace safety.
The institute said there will be representatives from the Institute for Information Industry, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Yuan Ze University, and an intelligent solutions firm, Chimes AI, who will share deployment case studies.
National Kaohsiung University's Department of Mechanical Engineering Professor Hsu Kuang-cheng (許光城) will present how tooling design structures affect signal penetration.
Yuan Ze University's Department of Computer Science & Engineering Assistant Professor Ryan Chung (鍾祥仁) will build AI agents to execute the multimodal process for automation.
Chime AI project lead, Chang Yu-hsuan (張育瑄), will showcase grounded applications of multimodal sensing in expected maintenance and workplace safety alerts.
Head of the Institute for Information Industry's human-machine collaboration division, Lai Po-jung (賴柏榕), will show grounded applications proving multimodal integration's advantage over traditional inspection in identifying defects.
Head of the Institute for Information Industry's carbon-reduction division, Lai Chi-i (賴奇易), will present multimodal data analysis applications in manufacturing.
The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday in room 401 at the GIS Xinwuri Convention Center, Wuri District, Taichung.
