TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said Wednesday that Typhoon Bavi is forecast to pass near northeastern Taiwan on Saturday.
Wu said Bavi is expected to begin affecting the country on Friday. The strongest impacts are forecast Saturday, when central and northern Taiwan, as well as mountainous areas, could face strong winds and torrential rain.
Conditions should gradually improve Saturday night as Bavi moves away, Wu said. However, unstable weather fueled by southwesterly winds and lingering moisture is expected from Sunday through July 16, bringing occasional showers and afternoon thunderstorms.
The Central Weather Administration forecast that Bavi will move west before turning northwest on Thursday. The agency projects Bavi's eye will pass near northeastern Taiwan on Saturday before entering waters north of Taiwan and making landfall in China.
