TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport handled more than 25.78 million passengers in the first half of the year, setting a record for the period and putting annual traffic on track to exceed pre-pandemic levels.
The airport saw passenger volume rise 6% from the same period in 2019 and 9% from last year, per ETtoday. It expects total passenger traffic to reach 50 million this year, surpassing the pre-pandemic record of 48 million.
Taoyuan International Airport Corp. Senior Vice President Tony Yu (余崇立) said summer travel demand is expected to peak in July and August, with total takeoffs and landings forecast to reach 46,000, or more than 750 per day. The figures would exceed levels recorded during the same periods in both 2019 and 2025, he said.
Yu said the airport has coordinated staffing and terminal flow management for the summer rush and urged passengers to arrive three hours before departure during peak periods, per ETtoday. He also recommended using online check-in, self-service baggage drop, and e-Gate automated immigration services.
Passenger growth was particularly strong from January to March, slowed slightly in April and May due to fuel shortages in Southeast Asia that delayed increases in flight capacity, and resumed in June, Yu said. He attributed the overall increase to new aircraft and route expansions by Taiwanese airlines, continued demand for overseas travel, and favorable exchange rates in Northeast Asia.
