TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Unimicron Technology plans to raise about NT$45 billion (US$1.4 billion) through a global depositary share offering, Reuters reported Monday.
The company is offering 50 million global depositary shares at NT$864 to NT$889 each, per UDN. Each depositary share represents one ordinary share.
The company plans to use the proceeds to purchase raw materials priced in foreign currencies, according to Reuters.
The fundraising comes as semiconductor companies across Asia turn to global investors to capitalize on rising demand linked to AI, per Reuters. South Korea’s SK Hynix launched a planned NT$900 billion US listing on Monday, while Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing completed a global depositary share offering in June.
A global depositary share is a security that allows overseas investors to gain exposure to a company’s stock. Unimicron’s shares have surged 317% this year, according to LSEG data.
Unimicron manufactures printed circuit boards and chip substrates, components used to connect and support chips in electronic devices.
