TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Bavi is approaching Taiwan, prompting Taiwan Water Corporation to activate measures to safeguard water supplies and prepare for potential flooding.
Taiwan Water said Monday it convened an emergency response task force to review water infrastructure, per CNA. It said water treatment and distribution reservoirs nationwide are being maintained at high levels, with total reserves of 4.8 million metric tons.
Taiwan Water said it has tested 562 emergency generators to ensure pumping stations and water treatment facilities can operate during power outages, per Liberty Times. It has also prepared 62 water tankers in case of localized water shortages.
The company has mobilized 324 contracted repair companies with 1,247 personnel, alongside 1,519 company employees. Additional water treatment chemicals have also been stockpiled to handle potential spikes in raw water turbidity.
Taiwan Water urged the public to store water in advance, warning that torrential rain could disrupt supplies. It advised residents to switch off electric water pumps during emergency outages to prevent overheating,
