TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Tigerair Taiwan flight from Tokyo to Kaohsiung was diverted to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport due to a smoke warning light in the cockpit, reports said Saturday.
Despite the alert, no smoke or burning object was found on flight IT281, the Liberty Times reported. Crew followed regular safety precautions by deciding to land in Taoyuan, the airline said.
Passengers said that during the flight from Narita, they had experienced the smell of burning plastic, though they had been unable to locate the source. The authorities in Taoyuan sent a fire truck as the plane landed, but no assistance was needed. All passengers left the aircraft in Taoyuan without any problems, UDN reported.
Tigerair Taiwan said it had reported the incident to the Civil Aviation Administration and to the manufacturer of the plane in order to find the cause of the incident. The airline said it was helping the passengers find overland transportation from Taoyuan to Kaohsiung.
