TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will open a representative office in Phoenix to serve Taiwanese businesses and residents in Arizona and in neighboring New Mexico, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday.
Preparatory work had already started, the ministry said in a statement. The capital of the southwestern US state has gained prominence due to the choice by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to launch a production unit there.
The ministry mentioned the growing role of the semiconductor industry and its supply chain in the area as a reason to open an office in Phoenix. The presence of the office would help deepen relations with the city and the state government, the ministry said.
Office staff will assist Taiwanese investors and business operators in the area, and boost cooperation in fields including technology, trade, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Phoenix will be Taiwan’s 14th in the US, the ministry said. The country already operates missions in Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Guam.
