TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s three largest telecom operators launched the MID Plus mobile identity authentication platform on Wednesday, introducing advanced verification tools to combat fraud.
The platform brings together TWCA, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone, First Commercial Bank, E.Sun Bank, and Taiwan Business Bank in a cross-industry effort to strengthen digital identity infrastructure, per CNA.
MID Plus builds on TWCA’s Mobile ID service by adopting internationally recognized GSMA standards, including SIM swap detection and roaming status verification, per Liberty Times. The platform combines telecom and banking data to provide stronger identity authentication for online services.
TWCA said the new service can detect recent SIM card changes and whether a device is currently in Taiwan, helping banks identify suspicious activity before approving high-risk transactions.
Chunghwa Telecom said the platform allows businesses to integrate identity verification through a single interface. Far EasTone said telecom-based authentication strengthens Know Your Customer procedures and helps prevent identity fraud.
