TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Cabinet is expected on Thursday to approve a proposed 4% pay raise for military personnel, civil servants and public school teachers next year.
The plan also includes a fixed NT$2,000 (US$68) increase in professional and supervisory allowances, effective retroactively from Wednesday, per UDN. The pay adjustments would benefit about 720,000 military personnel, civil servants, teachers, contract employees, and support staff.
Non-supervisory employees would receive total pay increases ranging from 5.88% to 9.98%, depending on rank, per the Commercial Times. Supervisory personnel would receive increases ranging from 6.39% to 11.56%.
The 4% general pay raise is expected to add about NT$38.3 billion (US$1.31 billion) in annual spending to the fiscal 2027 central government budget, per CNA. The retroactive allowance increases would cost about NT$11.2 billion this year through a supplementary budget.
