TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s Kinpo Group said Tuesday it is developing a quantum bit control system with the US’ SEEQC.
Conventional computers run on binary, whereas quantum computing runs exponentially faster on a combination of the two, known as a quantum bit. Quantum bit is also referred to as a “Qubit”, as coined by US physicist Benjamin Schumacher in 1995.
Kinpo General Manager Chen Wei-chang (陳威昌) said the project will optimize connectivity and reduce costs. Kinpo is responsible for partial system hardware and software development, while SEEQC handles quantum computing and superconducting integration, per CNA.
Chen said the system will support software, hardware, and service aspects to handle different requirements. He added that there will be a hybrid setting in which AI server tasks are accelerated by quantum computing.
Chief Technology Officer Li Sheng-hung (李盛宏) said the quantum bit control system integration will be on a systemic level. He noted that whether superconducting or trapped-ion technologies prevail, the internal logic remains similar.
Li said Kinpo will first focus on quantum computer architectures and adjust hardware and software requirements. The system integration is on schedule, with the first version slated for testing later this year, per the Economic Daily News.
