TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tropical Depression TD10 is likely to turn into Tropical Storm Maysak and might threaten Taiwan next week, the Central Weather Administration said Wednesday.
According to an administration map, the depression was moving north-northwest at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour. Wednesday morning, it was situated near Guam 4,780 km east of Taiwan’s southern tip at Eluanbi.
Even by July 6, it would still be far to the east of Taiwan, with current data too soon to make any prediction about its impact. If continuing on its present course, the storm might influence the weather in Taiwan during the second half of next week, the Liberty Times reported.
The relative strength of a high-pressure area over the Pacific will have an impact on the storm’s route. If the area weakens, the storm could turn north in the direction of Japan, but if pressure remains high, it will continue to head west.
A separate tropical depression, named TD09, is likely to turn into Tropical Storm Bavi, but is unlikely to approach Taiwan, according to the Liberty Times report. On Wednesday, the depression was located just west of the Philippines, with its path likely to take it across the Chinese island of Hainan into southern China.
