TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — AI and logistics will be the two drivers of Taiwan’s e-commerce competitiveness, Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute said Tuesday.
A MIC survey found that AI-powered price comparison was the most sought-after shopping feature, with 68.7% of respondents saying they wanted it, per CNA. It was followed by AI analysis of product information (39.2%), virtual try-ons and product demonstrations (37.1%), AI search and recommendations (35.2%), and AI-generated summaries of customer reviews (30.7%).
MIC industry analyst Tu Yun-tzu (杜芸諮) said retailers should tailor AI services to different customer groups, such as virtual try-ons for fashion shoppers. She added that AI agents are expected to become an important source of online traffic.
Convenience store pickup remained the most popular delivery option, used by 75.2% of online shoppers, compared with 54.7% for home delivery. About 76% of respondents said delivery within four days was acceptable for standard orders, while 67.2% expected expedited orders to arrive within one day.
Tu said the rise of short-form video, messaging apps, and food delivery services has conditioned consumers to expect quick deliveries and customer service. At the same time, she said rising living costs and competition from low-cost overseas platforms have made shoppers price-sensitive.
The survey also found personal care products, clothing, household goods, beauty products, and tickets were the most frequently purchased online categories, reflecting consumers’ growing preference for shopping platforms such as Momo and PChome.
