TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taipei City Police Department is stepping up training in deepfake detection and digital verification as AI tools become increasingly sophisticated.
The Taipei police held a dedicated course on Thursday using open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools like MyGoPen. Instructors combined case studies with practice to strengthen officers' investigative skills, according to a press release.
Course material covered AI image analysis, source tracing, misinformation verification tools, and digital footprint analysis. The police department said the goal is to improve first responders' ability to verify deepfake videos and other manipulated media.
The Criminal Investigation Division warned that AI tools are now advanced enough to fake images, alter videos, spoof websites, and spread misinformation for fraud and other criminal acts. This undermines public trust and slows down police work.
Police said that only with vigilance, constant training, and cross-sector collaboration can law enforcement keep up with public safety, per a Taipei City Government press release.
