TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Monday received Guatemala Health Minister Joaquin Barnoya and Vice Minister Edgar Rolando Gonzalez for a visit focused on health cooperation.
Speaking at the foreign ministry, Lin said Taiwan and Guatemala have worked together for years in public health and medical services. He said Taiwan is helping Guatemala build a cancer hospital and improve breast cancer prevention to give more people access to diagnosis and treatment.
Lin also thanked Barnoya for speaking in support of Taiwan at the World Health Assembly in May. He said Guatemala has continued to support Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization and related global health bodies.
Barnoya thanked Taiwan for its long-term help with medical infrastructure, health worker training, and public health capacity. He also passed on thanks from Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo for Taiwan’s support of Guatemala’s health system.
CNA reported that the delegation is visiting Taiwan from Monday to Saturday. It will also visit Taiwan’s health ministry, the Centers for Disease Control, the National Health Insurance Administration, the Taipei Metro control center, Tamkang Bridge, and cultural sites.
The foreign ministry said the visit will help Guatemala better understand Taiwan’s development in public health, technology, infrastructure, and local governance. It said the trip is also expected to deepen the partnership between Taiwan and Guatemala.
