TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan launched a seasonal tourist ferry route between Anping and Penghu's Magong on Tuesday to make summer travel easier, the city government said.
The route will run on Tuesdays and Fridays through August. Ferries leave Anping Port at 8 a.m. and return from Magong Commercial Port at 2 p.m., with each trip taking about 2.5 hours.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said the route is part of the city’s plan to develop sea tourism. He said it will connect Anping with Penghu, a popular outlying island destination.
The city said the service was planned for the summer travel season and two major events: the Penghu International Fireworks Festival and the Tainan Jiangjun Roar Music Festival. It said the route will help travelers visit both places easily.
The Tainan Tourism Bureau said the ferry gives travelers more ways to plan short trips or longer holidays. Visitors can tour historic and coastal areas in Tainan before taking the ferry to Penghu for island scenery and sea activities.
The city said both ports are close to popular tourist areas. Travelers can also buy duty-free goods at the travel service center in Magong Commercial Port.
