TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) on Monday urged young people to build connections across generations and borders.
Speaking at the Global Initiatives Symposium Taiwan, Hsiao said a nation’s strength depends not only on its achievements but also on the passion and leadership of its next generation, per CNA. She encouraged students to turn ideas into action and seize opportunities to engage with the world.
Hsiao said this year’s theme, “Bond and Beyond,” reflects a world increasingly shaped by geopolitical fragmentation. While globalization is evolving, Taiwan has turned challenges into opportunities, she said.
She also highlighted the symposium’s focus on the “emotion economy,” saying advances in AI and digital technology must remain grounded in human values. Innovation should enhance public well-being and foster stronger communities, she said.
Looking ahead to the symposium’s discussions and workshops, Hsiao encouraged participants to exchange ideas across disciplines and generations. She said listening to different perspectives is key to developing innovative solutions to complex issues.
Hsiao urged young people to use the forum to build lasting relationships that transcend geographic and generational boundaries, saying collaboration will be critical to meeting present and future challenges.
