TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu (陳玉秀) promoted Taiwan’s “smart inclusive tourism” approach at an APEC meeting Saturday, highlighting digital tools such as automated border gates and paperless entry to make travel easier.
Chen represented Taiwan at the 13th APEC Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Macau, per CNA.
Chen said Taiwan’s tourism upgrades are consistent with APEC’s goals. She said Taiwan has introduced digital measures, including e-gate border control systems and paperless entry, to improve the visitor experience, according to a Tourism Administration press release.
She highlighted several projects that use smart technology to support regional tourism economies. These include an integrated tourism data platform, real-time multilingual translation, AI customer service, and a traffic flow monitoring system.
Chen also pointed to cross-border digital payment cooperation with Japan, South Korea, and Singapore as part of efforts to improve convenience for travelers.
Separately, Chen held 10 bilateral meetings to promote cycling and hiking in Taiwan. She also invited participants to attend the Taiwan Lantern Festival.
