TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) attended the Global Women Leaders Summit in Italy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.
The June 22-25 event was organized by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security. During her stay in Italy, Tsai also met Italian lawmakers, think tank academics, and students from Taiwan and Italy, the ministry said in a statement.
The attendees at the women’s summit in the northern city of Bellagio discussed the impact of digital technology, AI, climate change, and international political developments. They also exchanged views about how to achieve results through collective action.
Tsai’s presence at the summit was helpful in raising Taiwan’s international profile, the ministry said. Traveling to Rome, the former president met Senate Deputy Speaker Gian Marco Centinaio and Italy-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group Chair Lucio Malan, as well as other lawmakers from ruling and opposition camps.
Tsai discussed the situation in the Taiwan Strait, supply chain security, and Taiwan-European relations with academics from think tanks, and from the University of Siena and the Sapienza University of Rome.
