TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An independent investigation has concluded that Taiwan’s top trade negotiator Yang Jen-ni (楊珍妮) was guilty of workplace bullying toward her deputy, Yen Huai-shing (顏慧欣), reports said Friday.
Allegations about mistreatment first emerged after Yen’s death at the age of 53 in March due to illness. Both Yang and Yen were involved in last year’s tariff talks between the Cabinet’s Office of Trade Negotiations and the Trump administration.
The Cabinet announced the results of the investigation into workplace bullying on Friday, the day before a three-month deadline set by the government.
The investigators concluded that Yang had repeatedly negated Yen’s opinions and interrupted her while she was speaking, CNA reported. The negotiator’s behavior created an unfriendly working environment, increasing mental and physical pressure on Yen, according to investigators.
The report looked into 12 allegations of bullying and harassment, but found Yang guilty of only two, the Liberty Times reported. Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) will decide next week whether Yang, who also serves as minister without portfolio, can continue in government.
