TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Medical Taiwan 2026 opened Thursday, with organizers highlighting smart healthcare and long-term care robotics as key next-generation industries.
TAITRA Chair James Huang (黃志芳) said the three-day event brings together 288 exhibitors across 460 booths and about 700 international buyers, aiming to showcase Taiwan’s smart healthcare capabilities to the world, per CNA.
The exhibition runs through Saturday at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 and features participants from 13 countries and regions, including the US, Japan, France, and Israel.
Huang noted that the event is being held alongside the Taipei International Food Show for the first time, with a health food pavilion integrated into the venue to connect the healthcare, technology, and nutrition sectors. He said the goal is to build a one-stop platform spanning the health industry value chain, from medical care to wellness products.
This year’s expo centers on “smart care” and includes themed zones developed with industry groups, including medical device and assistive technology pavilions focused on innovation.
The M-novator startup area features 11 teams from five countries, including Japan, Israel, and Singapore, presenting advances in AI, digital health, and precision medicine.
Huang cited recent remarks by TSMC Chair C.C. Wei (魏哲家), who identified smart healthcare and robotics as major emerging AI applications. Huang said Taiwan is well-positioned to capitalize on these trends as a key player in applied AI development.
Deputy Health Minister Lin Ching-yi (林靜儀) said healthcare systems worldwide face staffing shortages and burnout following the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing demand for digital tools that improve efficiency and reduce errors.
She said smart medical devices and digital technologies can improve care quality while streamlining clinical workflows.
