TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Annecy International Animation Film Festival opened this week in France, with Taiwanese animation earning multiple selections in the official competition and industry programs.
Five Taiwanese works were selected for Annecy’s main competition, with one project advancing to the Mifa Pitches. In a press release, Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) said its national pavilion features 41 companies and 61 projects, alongside pitching events to expand international co-production.
TAICCA Chair Wang Shih-fang (王時芳) said Taiwan’s strength lies in technology-driven production that links advanced animation techniques with global storytelling.
“Welcome to Dolly’s House,” directed by Seven YCH, Rady FU, and Tree Muta, was selected for the Contrechamp section and named its opening film. The hybrid project combines motion capture and 2D animation and previously received public funding.
Other selections include “Praying Mantis,” directed by Hsieh Po-yu (謝柏宇), and “You Are Not Part of the Cake,” a Taiwan-UK co-production by Chen Ting-jui (陳庭瑞), chosen for the Midnight Shorts and WTF sections.
Lien Chun-chien (連俊傑) was selected in the TV Films category for “YaYa’s Band,” while Wu Yi-han (吳奕翰) was selected in the Graduation Films category for “Immature.”
In the International Animation Film Market pitches, “Resonance,” directed by Huang Chia-yi (黃嘉怡), was selected for the student program. TAICCA also presented five projects through its “Toon Up Taiwan!” initiative with Gobelins Paris, part of a broader push to develop emerging creators.
A separate Taiwan showcase highlighted projects already in the sales stage, while the newly launched Taiwan Creative Content Festival Prize offers selected international teams access to Taiwan’s pitching, workshop, and financing resources, including development funding of up to NT$3 million (US$94,331).
The Taiwan Pavilion is also hosting meetings with film agencies from Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. More information is available here.
