TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tigerair Taiwan on Wednesday named former baseball star Lin Wei-chu (林威助) as its new brand ambassador for Japan.
The airline said Lin, who is well known in both Taiwan and Japan and currently serves as deputy general manager of the Fubon Guardians, was chosen to promote Taiwan in the Japanese market, per Liberty Times. Tigerair said his professional image and strong ties to Japan make him a natural fit for the role.
According to Tourism Administration data, Taiwan welcomed 2.99 million visitors in the first four months of this year. Japanese travelers accounted for 15.6% of arrivals, the largest share among all source markets, per CNA.
Tigerair Chair Huang Shih-hui (黃世惠) said the carrier operates 34 routes serving 22 destinations. The airline plans to launch Kaohsiung-Ishigaki and Kaohsiung-Komatsu services in September, expanding its network to 36 routes.
Huang said Lin’s 11-year career in Japanese professional baseball reflects the professionalism and perseverance that Tigerair hopes to convey. Lin said he was honored to take on the role and believes the partnership comes at the right time.
Tigerair added that it has expanded flights to Japan from Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung in recent years and will co-host its “Taiwan Day” event at Hanshin Koshien Stadium on Thursday.
