TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung and the American Institute in Taiwan will cohost a forum on the drone industry on July 2, Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) said Wednesday.
Lu said central Taiwan is home to four key sectors that play an essential role in the development of uncrewed aerial vehicles: semiconductors, precision machinery, optics, and aerospace, per Liberty Times.
The region brings together the elements needed to develop Taiwan’s next major economic sector after semiconductors, Lu said. The July 2 forum will bring together government officials, entrepreneurs, and academics to discuss industry opportunities, she added.
Lu said Taichung is ready to support drone production as global demand for the devices expands rapidly. She emphasized that UAVs can be used not only in warfare, but also in agriculture, trade, and business.
Taiwan-US cooperation on drones came up during a meeting between Lu and AIT Director Raymond Greene in April.
